When I started thinking about designing and building robots as a hobby, I had very little help locally. I turned to the Net and stumbled through vague documents and managed to get my first humble attempt to lurch around here and there.

My first major breakthrough came from a friend that also was interested in robotics. Without his help I would probably still be frustrated.

With this in mind, I thought that there might be others in the area who could use that "first major breakthrough" and might not have a friend who can help out. Hopefully, we can be a good starting point for these people, and they in turn can become friends of the next group of up and coming hobby robot builders.
